PUJA & RITUAL

Worship & Pujas

The Apsaras respond to grace, sincerity, and beauty. Worship can be as small as a single lit flame, or as full as the ancient sixteen-step rite.

The Spirit of Apsara Puja

Apsara worship is, at heart, an act of hospitality. You are inviting a celestial guest into your home, your body, your day. Where worship of fierce deities calls for austerity, Apsara puja calls for grace: clean cloth, fresh water, flowers in season, a quiet voice, and unhurried attention. Whatever you offer should be the best small thing you have — never elaborate beyond your means, never careless within them.

Simple Daily Puja

  1. 1. Wash your hands and face. Sit before the altar.
  2. 2. Light a single lamp or candle. Light incense.
  3. 3. Place a fresh flower (or petals) on the altar.
  4. 4. Chant the Apsara's bija mantra three or nine times.
  5. 5. Offer a small dish — fruit, a sweet, a spoon of milk.
  6. 6. Sit in silence for one to three minutes. Listen.
  7. 7. Bow, thank her, and rise softly.

Total time: seven to ten minutes. This is enough for a lifetime of practice.
